Escape Plan – Film Review

Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger finally team up in Escape Plan…about twenty years too late. Yes, we all were yearning for this twenty years ago, but better late than ever.

Stallone plays a man with a very interesting job. He gets sent into these maximum security prisons to try and escape, and once he does, these prisons will fix the flaws he points out. He is then thrown into a new high tech prison called The Tomb, ran by a cold-hearted warden, Jim Caviezel, and then teams up with Schwarzenegger to escape and burn the place to the ground. Muscle up gang.

If you go into this movie hoping for a crazy, intricate kind of prison escape movie, you are not going to be getting that much here. Let’s face it; you are here to finally see these two muscle bound, action heroes finally star opposite from each other in a prison break movie. That being said, if you are a fan of these two action giants, then you will most likely be very pleased and entertained by this flick. I am a fan of both, simply because I grew up watching their movies without my mom’s permission, so I did find entertainment in the movie.

The film was actually better than I thought it was going to be. Stallone does his Stallone badass persona thing, but I actually was more impressed by Arnold’s role here. He sharpened his acting chops slightly, which was a nice improvement from the Expendables movies. Caviezel does a pretty fantastic job as the cold, relentless warden of the prison, and I feel that his performance further made the movie more watchable and entertaining. The action works well in this movie, and we finally get to see the two bulked out men square off in a fist fight, which we have dreamt about for years now.

Overall, I say if you like the two actors go see it. If you are not exactly a fan of the two, then just pass on this one. The story tends to get better as they go along, but sadly, the one liners do not end being memorable. Check out my video review where I do terrible impressions of both actors. Just watch it.
