Did Best Man Holiday Hammer Out Thor this Weekend? [Box Office]

This weekend only saw one new box office contender that is a sequel to a movie that came out 14 years ago. That is a terribly long time between movies, but going into the weekend, Best Man Holiday was tapped to take on Asgard. Surprisingly, it almost won the battle.

Thor: The Dark World wins the box office for the second weekend in a row with a nice $38.4 million. Best Man Holiday was close behind pulling in $30.5 million in earnings. Apparently these box office earnings are an 87% jump from the original movie’s box office pull in 1999. I guess over the years, Best Man found an audience giving the push they needed to make the sequel, and to have that sequel be successful. With these earnings this weekend, you can guess that another movie will be in the works. Here is how the rest of the top ten did:

  1. Thor: The Dark World – $38.4 million
  2. Best Man Holiday – $30.6 million
  3. Last Vegas – $8.6 million
  4. Free Birds – $8.3 million
  5. Bad Grandpa – $7.7 million
  6. Gravity – $6.3 million
  7. Ender’s Game – $6.2 million
  8. 12 Years A Slave – $4.7 million
  9. Captain Phillips – $4.5 million
  10. About TIme – $3.5 million

Thor’s overall US box office earnings hit $147 million, with an international gross of $333 million. Gravity surpassed $500 million in global earnings, which I am sure Warner Bros. is extremely happy about for their space movie. Let me know what you guys saw this weekend, and how it was.
