James Cameron Compares Avatar Sequels to The Godfather

James-Cameron-Avatar-sequels

James Cameron is currently in pre-production for his Avatar movies, and we can expect three sequels to come out in the next decade. First one is slated for a 2016 release, and the little details we know about the sequels is that there is going to be scenes underwater. Yes…that is about it. Cameron recently sat down with the Associated Press and talked about the sequels, comparing them to another franchise you might have heard of.

[The first film] was very Jake-centric. His story seen through his eyes. We spread it around quite a bit more as we go forward. It’s really the story of his family, the family that he creates on Pandora. His extended family. So think of it as a family saga likeThe Godfather.

The Godfather. That is a pretty impressive comparison right there, but I can see what he was getting at. He then spoke about the rumors that the next movie was going to take place underwater for the majority of the flick.

There’s a fair bit of underwater stuff. It’s been inaccurately said that the second film takes place underwater. That’s not true. There are underwater scenes and surface-water scenes having to do with indigenous ocean cultures that are distributed across the three films.

He is creating quite a universe for Avatar, which he also had this to say about it.

I mean the Pandora that we have imagined will be a fantasy land that is going to occupy people for decades to come, the way I see it.

He sounds pretty confident, but Cameron is a visionary if you look at his films. Let me know your thoughts about the three sequels that will be coming out.
