I am sure some of you didn’t even know this, but Mr. Jean-Claude Van Damme, before he was stamped the Muscles from Brussels, got the gig to portray the Predator in the first Predator movie. The Predator had a completely different look when it first went into production, and it was outrageously ridiculous.
We are coming up on 30 years since the movie hit theaters, and footage from those first days on set of The Predator, where Van Damme had to wear this ridiculous red suit and try to emulate an alien predator. It’s quite comical really, and Van Damme hated every bit of it. I could only imagine just how hot it was in that suit shooting in the jungle, but his complaint more had to do with the fact that he wasn’t hired on for his martial arts skills. Luckily, after coming to their senses, the original Predator look was scrapped and Van Damme dropped out of the role. I think then Stan Winston stepped in and created the awesome looking Predator that we know and love, and I am sure Van Damme was relieved that he didn’t have to do the role anymore.
