Edge of Tomorrow – Film Review

edge-of-tomorrow-review

Edge of Tomorrow stars Mr. Tom Cruise, and Miss Emily Blunt, and brings the concept of Groundhog Day to a future, HALO-like world, where aliens of invaded the Earth. Cruise plays a commander that gets suckered into having to battle on the front lines as the first wave of soldiers try to take back Europe with new advance technology suits. After the slaughter of the invasion, Cruise wakes up to only start the day over again. He then realizes that this is a power he can utilize and seeks the aid of Emily Blunt who has had the same thing happen to her before.

I enjoyed the hell out of Edge of Tomorrow, and I knew I would given the ratings it was getting. I was almost nervous though, because sometimes looking at the ratings before you see a film, could grow an expectation and leave you disappointed. I was not disappointed whatsoever. I seriously was engaged in this fairly original sci-fi tale from start to finish. The action is shot with a mixture of long smooth pans and shaky cam. Doug Liman just knows how to combine both of those styles, and having Cruise putting forth 100% effort in his work, I wonder why it took so long for them two to work together.

Emily Blunt holds her own in this flick, and not just because I have a huge crush on her. She is straight up a badass, and the chemistry between her and Cruise works throughout the entire movie. You almost worry about a silly love story brewing up as this adventure moves on, but there was no emphasis on that, and that made me ecstatic.

Many might wonder just how they can pull off the Groundhog Day scenario with this kind of story, but don’t even wonder. Liman knew just how to shoot this movie to make the concept flow and be entertaining the whole time. I also loved the unique quality the aliens had. You haven’t scene aliens quite like this on the big screen.

So I highly recommend this movie my friends, especially if you are a Cruise fan, or a sci-fi fan. It’s refreshing. It’s fairly original, and it’s well acted and executed. Check it out this weekend, and check out me video review down below. Let me know if you saw it already.
