Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Defeats Guardians. Bring on the Sequel!

tmnt-box-office

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hits the big-screen once again, and given that it got pretty poor reviews, some wondered if it could defeat Guardians of the Galaxy. It in fact did, with $65 million, but don’t think Guardians didn’t have a strong second weekend. The movie still pulled in $41 million in its second week, and I don’t see it letting up for a couple more weeks.

  1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles                        $65 million/$65 million
  2. Guardians of the Galaxy                                $41.5 million/$175.9 million
  3. Into the Storm                                                 $18 million/$18 million
  4. The Hundred-Foot Journey                           $11.1 million/$11.1 million
  5. Lucy                                                               $9.3 million/$97.4 million
  6. Hercules                                                        $5.7 million/$63.5 million
  7. Get on Up                                                      $5 million/$22.9 million
  8. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes                     $3.6 million/$33.9 million
  9. Purge: Anarchy                                              $2.9 million/$197.8 million
  10. Planes Fire & Rescue                                    $2.4 million/$52.9 million

So with these box office results, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 has been announced for June 3rd, 2016. Guess they weren’t confident enough to announce it until they were sure it would make money. Let me know what you saw this weekend and what you thought about it.
