After the first Avengers movie won the hearts of comicbook fans, the public, and the critics, Marvel moved quickly on getting the Phase 2 movies going. Iron Man 3 led the pack, with Thor: The Dark City following after, and then we still got Captain America: The Winter Soldier coming out next year. Many of us wondered about the big green guy that was deemed a fan favorite in the superhero romp. Well someone familiar with the Hulk character chimed in on if he is going to get a standalone movie.
The video below is from Flicks and the City, and they interviewed the original Hulk himself, Lou Ferrigno. He talks about playing the iconic character, and the grueling task it took to wear all that makeup. He then talks about the various actors that have played Bruce Banner, and then the interviewer asks if he would like to see Mark Ruffalo do a standalone Hulk movie. Ferrigno then states that there is a plan for a Hulk movie, and that it should happen after Avengers 2 comes out. He might not be a super reliable source, but he is part of the Marvel world, so that is credible enough in my opinion.
It is difficult to bring the Hulk to the big screen in his own movie, and we know this by the recent attempts. The Ang Lee version didn’t grab audiences, and fans of the character didn’t like the changes that were made to the rage monster. The Ed Norton Hulk was significantly better, but it still failed to grab a big audience like the other Avenger characters have. I guess we will see what happens after Avengers 2 comes out. Joss Whedon created the best version of the Hulk that we have seen on the big screen, so I am sure he will do wonders in the Avengers sequel, then maybe that’ll parle him into his own movie.
