With X-Men: Days of Future Past vastly approaching its release date, time to talk about some other X-Men heroes that haven’t gotten (a proper) movie treatment.
Gambit is one of those X-Men characters that X-Men fans have been dying to see on the big screen, and they got it…in X-Men Origins Wolverine. Remember that whole thing? Where Marvel (or Fox) thought about doing origin standalone movies for all their mutants? That dream faded away, and they realized that X-Men really only work well when there are a bunch of them. But yes, Gambit made an appearance in that Wolverine origin movie, and fans around did not like it. So how about Channing Tatum as Gambit in his very own movie?
I’m dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum. That doesn’t have to be a great big movie. It’s a thief in New Orleans, it’s a whole different story. He’s on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He’s such a sweetheart.
That was said by Lauren Shuler Donner who has produced every X-Men film we have seen, and she wants a low-key Gambit standalone movie with Mr. Tatum. I can actually see that working, simply because Tatum has shown he’s an action star, and he changed my opinion about him in 21 Jump Street, as well as his memorable cameo in This is the End. Who knows if this will really happen, but I actually think it would be a good idea. Especially since she wants it to be not as much of an “in your face” blockbuster. Let me know your thoughts about this.
