When this news broke on many different movie sites, I was very confused. Many stated that Ghostbusters 3 was going to release in 2015. Many said it’s now a Ghostbusters reboot. And then we have the ones that actually heard from a man who was a part of the whole thing (Ivan Reitman) who states that it will begin filming in 2015, and in a way it is a reboot. Sony wants to reboot the franchise, but it is still essentially a sequel. Sadly, Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two movies, will not be directing this movie. He has long been attached to directing the new flick, but I think with death of Harold Ramis, he didn’t feel like he was up to the task.
It really seems to have resonated, and I think a lot of adults who saw it when they were younger have shown it to their kids and they seem to respond much the same way. Sony sees this as a huge worldwide opportunity, and it is eager to make the film.
That was said by Reitman, and I couldn’t agree more. Why it took so long to get another Ghostbuster movie, is beyond me. Especially that period of time where it seemed like there were countless ghost hunting shows on TV. Reitman also mentioned how the movie is more of a reboot simply because the remaining cast have minor roles in the new movie which has been reported already. I wish that wasn’t the case, and that the original cast played mentors throughout the whole movie, and maybe even suited up at the end.
Hopefully this sequel moves forward, because the Ghostbusters were a favorite in my childhood. Let me know you thoughts about this whole thing.
