Currently Mr. Joss Whedon and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are underway shooting Avengers: Age of Ultron, but Whedon sat down with Empire magazine to talk about the sequel. From answering questions about shooting Avengers 2 differently, to having a lot of fun with the Ultron character, Whedon doesn’t hold much back when talking about his baby. First up: adding Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch to the mix.
I fiercely dislike the idea of just throwing in more people for the sake of doing that. But last time I had all of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes versus one British character actor, and I needed more conflict.
Now he mentions James Spader’s Ultron and how awesome it is.
I’m having a blast with Ultron. He’s not a creature of logic – he’s a robot who’s genuinely disturbed. We’re finding out what makes him menacing and at the same time endearing and funny and strange and unexpected, and everything a robot never is.
Whedon then goes on about shooting in the UK, and how it created a somewhat different tone from the first Avengers movie.
The number of different looks and textures and moods we’re getting from the British locations is stupid awesome. because this, palette-wise, is very different. I’m trying to make a different film. Because why would you make one movie twice? That seems weird.
I like it. Whedon is set to blow our minds yet again, but sadly we have to wait another year to see it. Avengers 2 is set to hit theaters on May 1st, 2015, so let me know your thoughts about what he said.
