Two highly anticipated and highly rated sequels hit the cinemas this weekend, and it was tough to determine which one would end up on top. You have the R-rated comedy, 22 Jump Street, and you have the family animated flick, How to Train Your Dragon 2, which are both on opposite ends of the movie spectrum. Many figured Dragon 2 would be the obvious winner, but I had faith in 22 Jump Street, and I was right! 22 Jump Street wins the box office this weekend grabbing $60 million dollars. That’s $10 million more than Dragon 2, as it pulled in $50 million. Let’s check the rest of the movies, shall we?
- 22 Jump Street $60 million/$60 million
- Dragon 2 $50 million/$50 million
- Maleficent $19 million/$163.5 million
- Edge of Tomorrow $16.2 million/$56.6 million
- The Fault of Our Stars $15.7 million/$81.7 million
- X-Men: Days of Future Past $9.5 million/$205.9 million
- Godzilla $3.2 million/$191.3 million
- A Million Ways $3 million/$38.9 million
- Neighbors $2.5 million/$143.1 million
- Chef $2.3 million/$14 million
Nice to see that Edge of Tomorrow didn’t take a huge drop like Fault in Our Stars. Shows that word of mouth can bring a movie to box office success. Let me know what you saw this weekend and what you thought about it.
