Transformers 5 might not be Directed by Michael Bay

The Transformers franchise has seen four movies each one directed by the infamous Michael Bay. First movie was a nice little introduction for the robots in disguise into live-action, but the sequels continued to get worse and worse. With Age of Extinction, they had a complete cast overhaul, yet it still remained the same exact formula to the rest. Bay mentioned that after the third Transformers, he was going to hang up his robot bull horn, but then decided to come back, which lucky us. Looks like he’s singing that tune again.

In a recent interview with USA Today, Bay mentioned how he wants to change things up, leading us to believe he will not return to direct Transformers 5. Should we celebrate?

There’s kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make. I have a lot of stories to tell. And it’s about flexing new muscles.

Bay has a few projects in the works at the moment, one being a WWII flick, as well as Bad Boys 3. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura talked about keeping Bay in this franchise, but knows they will have to find someone else to keep the Autobots going.

I think it’s one of those classic things where somebody reported that and suddenly it became our plan. We have never discussed the idea of how to hand it off, honestly. It’s not like we don’t think, well what happens if Michael doesn’t do it, of course you do. But we want to keep Michael on this, so we’re not spending any time worrying about who could come in. We’re trying to figure out how to keep him going and keep him excited.

Keep him excited; you mean throw more money at him? I really hope they get someone knew directing these movies, so we can get a Transformers movie with more depth and less fireworks. This just shows you that they don’t care about making a good movie, but they know Bay can bring in $100 million right off the bat, so they want to keep their pockets full, and sacrifice any kind artistic creativity. Let me know your thoughts about this.
