Remember when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were almost aliens? Of course you do, because the internet literally made a roaring sound when that was talked about over a year ago. Concept artist Anthony Francisco heard there was going to be a reboot TMNT movie back in 2011, and decided to come up with a slightly different look to the Turtles for the newmovie. His concepts were rejected and you can see why.
Guns. He wanted them to have guns. I can understand maybe changing the look of them, especially if they wanted a more alien origin to them; but to take their weapons that make them who they are, and put guns in their hands is just ridiculous. Would’ve been a disaster, but maybe he can get this team of gun-totting turtles in a comicbook somewhere.
When Martin Astles (Head Sculptor at Illusion Industries) told me that Michael Bay wanted to do a TMNT movie, I started doing these concepts to help Illusion get the project. We did get a chance to meet with the producers and the meeting went well but we did not get the gig. So in a way these images you see have just become fan art coz I did not get paid for it, I just wanted to work on it so bad 🙂 . This was back in 2011.
Who gave it his best shot, but we are glad they go rejected. Let me know your thoughts about these Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
