There are five writers and two producers that have formed a franchise together to get these movies underway. Currently a couple of these writers are finishing up Spider-Man 3, and the studio is hoping Marc Webb will return for a third time to direct the movie. The third sequel is slated for a June 10th, 2016, and apparently that movie will expand into the Venom story. Drew Goddard, who is becoming one of Marvel’s favorite people, is set to help get the Sinister Six movie underway with a possibility of directing it. The Sinister Six movie will focus mainly on the villains of course, which seems bold, but hopefully they will be able to pull it off.
The Spider-Man film franchise is one of our studio’s greatest assets. We are thrilled with the creative team we have assembled to delve more deeply into the world that Marc, Avi and Matt have begun to explore in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. We believe that Marc, Alex, and Drew have uniquely exciting visions for how to expand the Spider-Man universe in each of these upcoming films.
That was said by producer Doug Belgrad after the announcement, who obviously is really excited for this universe expansion.
Let me know what you guys think about this news. You think it might be slight Spider-Man overkill? Or does this news excite that little nerd inside?
