Go Go…Power Rangers? The 10 year-old me got excited yesterday when this news was announced, but the present day me is thinking, “Hollywood really is going to reboot everything, aren’t they?” Lionsgate is teaming with Saban Brands to bring the Power Rangers back to the big-screen in hopes for a brand-new franchise. Now, like I said, Hollywood is going to reboot everything. It’s inevitable. You got to realize what Marvel Studios has started with The Avengers when it comes to sci-fi franchises that have a huge universe. Every company is trying their best to emulate that success, and I say do it. Bad or not, it’s all entertaining.

Not going to lie, the original Power Rangers movie was actually pretty good. I was an avid watcher of the original show, and it seemed like the movie stepped it up a couple notches, with its action and visual effects. They plan on re-introducing us to the high school students who get picked by Zordon to become a team of alien ninja fighters. Could be great, or a pleasurable disaster.

Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangers brand to the next level. They have the vision, marketing prowess and incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from The Hunger Games to Twilight and Divergent. In partnership with the Lionsgate team, we’re confident that we will capture the world of the Power Rangers and translate it into a unique and memorable motion picture phenomenon with a legacy all its own.

That was said by Power Rangers creator, Haim Saban, and of course he sounds super optimistic about the new movie.

We’re thrilled to be partnering with Haim Saban and his team to maximize the potential of this immensely successful and universally recognized franchise. The Power Rangers stories and characters have been embraced by generations of audiences for more than 20 years, and today they are more powerful than ever. We have the ideal partner and the perfect brand with which to create a motion picture event that will resonate with moviegoers around the world for years to come.

That was spoken by Lionsgate’s Jon Feltheimer, and he sounds like a man who sees dollar signs. Let’s fact facts folks: head cheese company guys that speak like this, are only for the idea to make a shit load of money. I am sure he has never seen an episode of Power Rangers, but I have, and this idea could be pretty fantastic if done right. Sadly, the Power Rangers is very much like Voltron, and many fans of that show have been begging for a movie. I give it a couple years, and we will finally get one. Let me know what you think about this news.
