Ryan Reynolds Talks Green Lantern and the Role that Landed Deadpool

Ryan Reynolds Talks Green Lantern and the Role… by filmjunkee

Ryan Reynolds hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to big movies, but we all know he will redeem himself playing Deadpool. He spoke to Empire Magazine about the flop that was Green lantern, and another role that paved the way to Deadpool. When I got into Deadpool and rewatched Blade Trinity, I said. “that’s Deadpool right there.”

ON GREEN LANTERN:

That’s the only time I’ve traversed into that mega-budget territory, and it was a slightly terrifying place to be. You really need a visionary behind a movie like that, but it was the classic studio story: “We have a poster, but we don’t have a script or know what we want; let’s start shooting!”

ON BLADE TRINITY:

Apparently a Fox Executive gave him a stack of Deadpool comics when working on Blade.

Seeing as you’re essentially playing this guy anyway, maybe you should play him for real.

I pored through the comics and realized that this character occupies a space in the comic book universe that nobody else does. There are moments where we really just venture into the heart of darkness and stay there for a few beats, but then it also has this very humorous undertone. We can go places and do things with this that you couldn’t do with any other superhero property.
