Dan Akyroyd Gives Ghostbusters Reboot Review… by filmjunkee
Sony has apparently held a test screening for the Ghostbusters reboot, and you guessed it, it’s big time positive. He couldn’t wait to get on his computer to share with his fans on his Facebook page.
As originator of the original: Saw test screening of new movie. Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films plus Bill Murray is in it! As one of millions of man-fans and Ray Stantz, I’m paying to see that and bringing all my friends!
Come on, Dan. More laughs and scares? That’s only going to piss off the fans more. I get it. He’s got stock in the franchise so he HAS to give this kind of review. But then we have a review from AgentOChaos, and he wasn’t so pleasant about what he saw:
Ghostbusters test screened to absolutely abysmal reviews in Van Nuys this weekend. They said the movie’s trying too hard to be both relevant and funny. The CGI is something out of Disney’s horrible Eddie Murphy led the haunted mansion from years ago. And nobody can understand why Kate McKinnon’s character is absolutely batshit because she’s given no character development. Each woman is presented as is and the script says go go go!
Plus it really mishandles the feminine message. At one point Leslie Jones’ character who no kidding shouts every single line in the movie, tells a little girl “Don’t let anybody ever tell you what kind of bitch you are! Honey you be the bitch you want to be!”
The good news is Chris Hemsworth steals every scene he’s in and it’s not because he takes his shirt off but because he’s supposed to be hilarious. The cameos and surprises from the original movies are hamfisted and forced and nobody looks like they really want to be there.
The character of Slimer however is reinvented as a clever Bugs Bunny type spook who is always smarter than the Ghostbusters themselves. There’s already talk of a spin-off film coming from Sony in 2019.
But like I said the good news is minimal and Sony is absolutely panicked right now. Expect the marketing machine to crank up to 500% to cover up this shit. At least the good news is Batman v Superman dawn of Justice is no longer the worst film of the year.
