Producing partners, Ben Affleck and George Clooney, went head to head against each other this weekend, and you can probably already guess who came up on top. You had one movie that looked simply dazzling even without the 3D, then you had a cliche, mediocre, gambling movie that starred Justin Timberlake. Never liked JT in the lead man spot, and you can see why.
Gravity took the box office trophy this weekend with $55.6 million. What is even more impressive about the space survival adventure, is that 80 percent of those earnings came from 3D IMAX. Normally movies that are in 3D will earn less than half the total earnings, but let’s face it, the 3D really does make the movie. I will have a review up later today.
Runner Runner came in third with $7.6 million, landing behind Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2, which made $21.5 million in its second weekend. So not even Batman himself could drive the movie to being successful. I still have faith in him as Batman.
