William Fichtner sat down with Flicks In The City recently, and answered some questions about the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movie. He hints at what to expect with the anticipated movie, and if you were worried about this movie sucking all kinds donkey piss, this will not help.
It always had sort of a bouncy cartoon feel to me, which is great, that’s why it was appealing. That’s not this movie….It’s not like any Mutant Ninja Turtles thing you’ve ever seen before. It’s freaky, they’re cool, and they’re mutants and they look awesome. It’s tough and it’s going to be really, really great.
We already knew that it would not be like any other Ninja Turtles “thing’ we have seen before, when they cast you…an older white guy, to play the role of the villain that is suppose to have an Asian background.
Well I play a guy named Eric Sachs and we find out that Eric Sachs is somebody else too. I can’t give away too much in the story but I can tell you that who Shredder is in the telling of this Turtles is unlike any telling of the story before. His connection and relationship to the turtles is a bit surprising and for an actor playing it, the backstory, which comes out in this film, is really intriguing…We made some changes while filming that I thought are just awesome.
Eric Sachs? Yeah, having him play someone named Oroku Saki might have been a bit of a stretch.
Shredder dons himself with armor, and that’s who he is and that happens in this story. It’s the backstory on how it all began with the turtles, that the character of Eric Sachs….it’s not by chance that he knows the Turtles.
I do not know gang. With each piece of information, I am loosing more and more faith that this will not be satisfying. I keep thinking of the dreadful attempts at adapting a Street Fighter, and how this parallels to that. Fichtner also mentioned how he signed a three picture deal, which means Michael Bay and his company have faith in this project. I just cannot see it. If you want to check out the rest of the interview, I have it down below for you. Let me know what think about this.
