When the screenwriter to Star Wars Episode VII was announced, many probably thought, “the guy who wrote Toy Story 3?!?!” That is what I thought at first, but I thought if George Lucas and Lucasfilms approved of that choice, then so be it. Well it looks like Michael Arndt has just dropped out from the project, and the pen will be handed to the captain of the ship and veteran writer who is no stranger to the saga.
J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan will be taking over writing duties for Episode VII, and we should all actually be very pleased by this. Abrams is no stranger from writing scifi, and there is something about a director that has also written the very movie he is directing. It seems more personal in my opinion. Kasdan helped pen The Empire Strikes Back, which in my choice for best Star Wars stroytelling, was the best one out of the six. There has been no info on why Arndt dropped out from penning the script, but let’s face it; he had a hell of a job on his hands. And now that Abrams and Kasdan have helmed the scribing duties, only makes me more excited. Let me know what you guys think about this change.
