Gravity has certainly been a box office phenomenon, and if you haven’t seen it yet, you probably should close out this post. Turns out, director Alfonso Cuarón gave his son, Jonás Cuarón, scribing and directing privileges to a short film called Aningaaq, that is a spin-off of the blockbuster hit.
Aningaaq takes place in Greenland, where a local fisherman receives a distress call from Sandra Bullock’s character. If you have seen Gravity, you remember when she was seeking refuge in the Russian pod, and tried to call out for help. Well she ended up getting someone who didn’t speak English, and didn’t know what was going on. There was then this feeling of giving up from Bullock’s character, and she listened to the man’s crying baby, and then they both started howling like wolves to comfort the fact that she knew she was going to die. So now we get to see the other end of that radio transmission, with Bullock’s voice on the other end.
Aningaaq was suppose to be added to the blu-ray extras, but apparently after hitting certain filmfests, Cuarón decided to enter the short for an Academy Award for best short film. I am sure they will consider it because it is very well done. So check it out below, and let me know what you think of it.
