Ben Affleck Talks More Batman Vs. Superman Backlash and the Regrets of Daredevil

Ben Affleck in Daredevil…some of you are probably “LOLing” just thinking about that. I don’t blame you, because that movie is what production companies show superhero movie directors what not to do. But everyone seems to dwell on that movie after he was cast as Batman in Batman vs. Superman, and forget that it was a decade ago, and that he’s come such a long way since then.

In a recent interview with Playboy, Affleck chimed in on all the internet backlash, and how people insist on referring to Daredevil when they they think of him as Batman. I say stop it. It wasn’t entirely his fault that that movie was terrible. Sure, his acting chops weren’t finely tuned quite yet, but you really got to put more of the blame on the writers and director of that superhero debacle. It all starts with them.

I understand I’m at a disadvantage with the Internet. If I thought the result would be another Daredevil, I’d be out there picketing myself. [Laughs] Why would I make the movie if I didn’t think it was going to be good and that I can be good in it?

Exactly. Why would he do that again? Affleck has become an avid storyteller. Look at the three movies he has directed, as well as help write. The Town, Gone Baby Gone, and Argo, all have all gotten praise from critics, and won awards God’s sake.

The only movie I actually regret is Daredevil. It just kills me. I love that story, that character, and the fact that it got f****d up the way it did stays with me. Maybe that’s part of the motivation to do Batman.

Boom. Love that kind of motivation. Even if people are going to compare him to Bale’s Batman as soon as the first teaser trailer comes out. Bale was loved by all of us, even though his Batman voice kind of irritated people at times.

The new Batman is to redefine him in a way that doesn’t compete with the Bale and Chris Nolan Batman but still exists within the Batman canon.

I think many seem to forget that with each version of a superhero, there needs to be some change from the previous. Look at how much our favorite superheroes have changed throughout the years in comicbooks. Sometimes people just have a tough time with change, which is why the public had mixed feelings about Cavill’s Superman. Everyone wanted the Christopher Reeve version it seemed, which I guess they forgot about Superman Returns, because that was almost a carbon copy.

When all said and done, Ben Affleck is Batman. And he is going to be our Batman for the next decade. I am extremely looking forward to it, and I think he is going to blow us all away. Let me know your thoughts about what he said.
