Quentin Tarantino Sues Gawker for Hateful Eight Script Leak

Last week, Quentin Tarantino came out to let everyone know he had just shelved his newly finished script for The Hateful Eight. This was due to the script making its way online, and spreading throughout the interwebs. When Tarantino made himself vocal about the awful situation, he mentioned that he only gave the script to 6 people. 3 of those people were actors, and he suspected that maybe those said actors gave it to one of their agents, and one of those agents leaked it out. Well now Tarantino has found one of the perpetrators of the script being leaked out, and he is out for blood.

Tarantino is going after the site Gawker for posting on the sites Defamer page. Gawker editor John Cook addressed the situation this evening.

Gawker and Defamer are news sites, and our publication of the link was clearly connected to our goal of informing readers about things they care about.  As far as I can tell (but I’m no lawyer!), no claim of contributory infringement has prevailed in the U.S. over a news story. We’ll be fighting this one.

Tarantino is suing for $1 million, and this isn’t the first time Gawker has been under fire for something like this. Dr. Phil and Hulk Hogan, are just some of the other names that have gone after Gawker, because they have a knack for posting copyrighted and private material. Makes me sick to my stomach that gutless pieces of shit post other people’s hard work for their own benefit. It’s one thing to post a script that was never made, but it is another to post something that a talented filmmaker just finished. any more information that comes out of this story I will let you know.
