Will there be a Divergent Franchise? – Box Office

A lot of pressure was on the makers of Divergent this weekend. The marketing budget alone probably cost more than the entire film’s budget. They were so confident that this movie would be a hit, they already scheduled the two sequels, so hopes for another Hunger Games was in the air. They got their wish and found their audience, as Divergent scored $56 million this weekend.

The other newcomer, Muppets Most Wanted, came in second $16.5 million, which is a little less than what was expected, but oh well. Here is how the top 10 panned out:

  1. Divergent – $56 million – TOTAL – $56 million
  2. Muppets Most Wanted – TOTAL – $16.5 million
  3. Mr. Peabody and Sherman  – $11.7 million TOTAL – $81 million
  4. 300: Rise of an Empire – $87. million – TOTAL – $93.6 million
  5. God’s Not Dead – $8.6 million – TOTAL – $8.6 million
  6. Need for Speed – $7.8 million – TOTAL – $30.4 million
  7. The Grand Budapest Hotel – $6.8 million – TOTAL – $13 million
  8. Non-Stop – $6.3 million – TOTAL – $78.6 million
  9. The LEGO Movie – $2.6 million – TOTAL – $243.3 million
  10. The Single Moms Club – $3.1 million – TOTAL – $12.9 million
