Robert Downey Jr. will step foot in his iron suit once again for Avengers 2, and he recently spoke up about the anticipated sequel with Variety. He also talks about being the oldest out of the bunch, and how eventually the role will have to be recast or retired. Something none of use want to think about.
The smart money is you have to look at everybody’s age. I’ll put myself at the top of the list. Sooner or later, they’ve got to start over and get somebody young. I’m not there with them yet.
“Yet” being the keyword there, and we know that he did sign on for Avengers 2 and 3. No word on if he will return for another Iron Man sequel, but my money is that he won’t. Downey then talks about Avengers 2, and drops words such as, “a very ambitious sequel”, “smart”, and “dense”. He then jokes about Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, and how a certain little one in his life loves that character.
My 2-year-old is crazy about Hawkeye, and I think Jeremy [Renner] has a lot to do with the plot. There’s always so many plates to spin to get these things half-right, and I’m really excited about this one.
Avengers: Age of Ultron is currently in production right now, and a slew of images have already made it onto the web. Let me know your thoughts about what Downey said, and if you think they should retire his character once he is done with it.
