Brick Mansions, is actually an American remake of movie called District B13, stars the late Paul Walker, who is an undercover cop trying to rid the Detroit streets of some sketchy hoodlums. The Brick Mansions is a gated section of Detroit where the under privileged live their lives ran by a drug trafficking madman played by RZA. Paul Walker has to infiltrate the Brick Mansions, not only because he wants revenge on RZA’s character for killing his father, but to also disarm a bomb he somehow got a hold of. He teams up with David Belle, who actually starred in the original version of this movie, and he has a special skill: parkour bitches.
As much as I would love to say this movie was great because it is one of Paul Walker’s last movies…it wasn’t. Shocker, right? The director of the movie is the editor of Taken 2 and Transporter 3, and if you have seen those two action flicks, you know they were pretty sloppy when it came to the fast-paced editing and action. This one is really no different. The parkour scenes with David Belle where pretty phenomenal at times, but the action would end up pretty sloppy. Paul Walker plays the role like Paul Walker, so not much different from any of the other roles RZA really isn’t a convincing villain in this movie at all, and I am going to actually quote a YouTube critic when he stated that RZA sounded like a gangster Elmer Fudd. He really did, and I am laughing about that comparison as I write this right now. The flick is entertaining when the action hits full throttle, but the chemistry between our two stars when they are going through this video game storyline, misses most of the time, and the outcome just didn’t really do it for me.
So I say pass on this one my friends, and maybe save it for a Redbox or Netflix night. Check out my video review below to hear me say the word “sloppy” a few times. I also mention how sad it was to see Walker on screen, given that he will no longer grace the big screen after Fast and Furious 7 comes out. Let me know if you checked Brick Mansions out, and what you thought about the action film.
