For a guy he claimed that he was done with film making, Kevin Smith certainly hasn’t shown any signs of giving up the life. He just wrapped up filming his horror movie Tusk, and now he has announced a new horror movie that will take place around Christmas time title “Anti-Claus”. I know why he hasn’t settled down. It’s the Devil’s lettuce. Hard to not get creative when you expand your mind, and I remember him tweeting out that he finished this script on 4/20.
Anti-Claus sees the story of of an old devil-like being called the Krampus, also know as the Anti-Claus. What does he do? Well he eats the naughty children out there, instead of just leaving a lump of coal in their stockings.
When I was a kid, if they wanted to make a Christmas horror movie, they’d stick an axe in Santa’s hands. In ‘Anti-Claus,’ we leave Santa alone and creep with the Krampus through twisted tales of holly-jolly murder, desire, desperation and despair. Just in time for the holiday season… In America, we’re taught that nice kids gets presents from Santa and naughty kids get coal. But in countries like Germany, Austria, Bavaria, Romania and Hungary, Christmas is more metal than merry: Saint Nicholas brings a sack full of toys for good kids and the Krampus carries an empty bag for taking away the bad kids. I wanna see THAT Christmas movie. So rather than wait for it, we’ll make it instead.
Sounds like a jolly good time, and Kevin Smith can write pretty much anything if you look at his movie resume. Principal photography will begin in September, and probably won’t see a release until the following year around the holiday season. Let me know if this movie idea excites you or not.
