Transformers: Age of Extinction – Film Review

Transformers: Age of Extinction sees the return of notorious director (and keynote speaker expert) Michael Bay, directing another robot, explosion orgy. This time we get a fresh cast that consists of Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, and TJ Miller. Wahlberg is a single dad raising a teenage girl, who then stumbles on an old truck that he finds out is our hero, Optimus Prime. Wahlberg is an inventor, so it only seemed fitting that he would find a Transformer. The Government no longer trust the Autobots, so they are being hunted down, but there is another reason for the bounties. We then see explosion after explosion, and are given the best dialogue we can get from a Michael Bay flick.

Most of you know it’s just another Bay shit sandwich, and it is for the most part. Sure, the audience that will go see this movie, love the visual aspect of the movie, and cheer at the end when the Autobots win. Sadly, these people should’ve packed the theaters showing Edge of Tomorrow.

It was refreshing to hear that a whole new cast was being brought aboard for this sequel, because Shia LeBouf running and screaming was getting on all of our nerves. You would think with a new cast, the Bay formula would change. It doesn’t, and Bay feels okay with characters drooling over Wahlberg’s 17 year-old daughter, who even though she was raised by a single dad in Texas, looks like she grew up raised by the riches of Beverly Hills. The character that is her boyfriend, is one of those characters you wish would have died shortly after he was introduced. He definitely wins for best crap lines in this movie.

Wahlberg does what he does best, and that is acting like a badass and look good while doing it. He is the best character in the whole movie, but even he is met with cheesy dialogue. Stanley Tucci is always great in movies, but even he had trouble with this dialogue as well. The movie also runs two and a half hours, which is about 45 minutes WAY too long for explosion after explosion, that seem to have a lot of fireworks within them.

If you liked the previous movies, you will like this one. It is entertaining, and the visual effects a good most of the time, so don’t expect a good movie. Expect a summer blockbuster popcorn flick.
