Last year, we got word that Robert Downey Jr. might be hanging up his iron suit, at least for any Iron Man standalone movies. He was the last one to sign on for Avengers 2 and 3, and after that news broke, we wondered if Iron Man 4 was going to happen. It didn’t seem that the highest paid actor of 2013 was going to continue the Iron Man saga, but he recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly and mentioned that he’s not ready to qquit yet, and he’s just waiting for the right proposal from Marvel Studios.
It’s down to Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios president] and Ike [Perlmutter, CEO of Marvel Entertainment] and Disney to come to us with what the proposal is, and that’s on us to agree or disagree. When things are going great, there’s a lot of agreement. Right now, this has just been swell, hasn’t it? This has been a really good one and it feels good and we’re having a good time.
I’m glad to hear he’s still having fun with this character, but let’s face facts; he’s expensive. You hate to hear about how a greedy an actor is when you love the characters they play on-screen, but sadly, it is just part of Hollywood. He then went onto talk about not hanging up the iron suit.
It’s that thing of: Why give up the belt when it feels like you can barely get jabbed? Most people are saying that right when they get knocked out. The future is, as usual, uncertain.
I don’t think any of us can imagine another actor playing the Tony Stark role, but it is going to be interesting to see what they decide to do when the time comes that Downey has had enough. Avengers: Age of Ultron is currently shooting right now, and will see a June 1st, 2015 release. Let me know your thoughts about Iron Man 4.
