The Equalizer – Film Review

The Equalizer sees a 2014 for movie adaptation from the TV show, this time bringing in Denzel Washington to kick a little ass again. He plays a mild man working at a Home Depot like workplace, but no one knows where he came from, or what he did prior to this life. He has a set routine to his life that seems boring, and that includes frequenting this diner, where he brings his own tea packet and reads a book. He becomes friends with a working girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) and when her handlers put her in the hospital, he decides to take action. Little did he know they have ties to the Russian mob.

I enjoyed the hell out of The Equalizer because Denzel kicking ass is a beautiful sight to see on the big screen. Sure, a lot are comparing this flick with Taken, because it’s an older gentleman, with a mysterious past, who kicks ass like he was bred for it. It just works here extremely well. Denzel’s performance is fantastic, and handles that calm persona throughout, even in the face of the main villain of the movie. The action is entertaining, the performances work for all the characters, and it ends quite nicely leaving room for a sequel, which is already in development.

My only real gripes about the movie is that I wish the badass villain played by Marton Csokas, was used a little more. He seemed like Denzel’s equal, but there wasn’t much of a stand off between them, so I wish they had more of the character. The Chloe Grace sub-plot seemed to end quickly, and I wish they didn’t walk away from it so quickly.

If you’re a fan of Denzel, and you want to see am entertaining action film, go watch The Equalizer. Check out my video review down below to hear me talk more about it.
