Zack Snyder Talks Batman v Superman Trailer, Spoilers, and More!

Zack Snyder Talks Batman v Superman Trailer… by filmjunkee

Zack Snyder has been talking about Batman v Superman with MTV lately, while promoting the Crash Doritos Super Bowl Contest. You can see him make a surprise appearance during the contest down below, and listen to what he has to say about Batman v Superman folks.

ABOUT SPOILERS:

Of course I hate it when any spoilers come out!” he said. “You design the movie as a story that evolves as you watch it, so moment-to-moment [you’re thinking], ‘Oh my god, what’s going to happen next? Are they gonna live? Are they gonna die?’ So you want that experience for the audience, as much as you can. If you’re, as an audience member, exploring these articles, looking for answers to questions that you have, maybe you’re okay with knowing before you go. It’s like an individual taste. But like I said, I want people to see the movie without knowing.

ABOUT THE TRAILER:

I have the benefit of seeing the movie,” he pointed out “It’s cool that they think it’s too much and I appreciate people not wanting to know, but there’s plenty that they don’t know. There’s a lot of movie that’s not in the trailer.

ABOUT LEX LUTHOR IN THE TRAILER:

In the trailer, of course he comes across in a very specific way,” said Snyder. He and “Argo” screenwriter Chris Terrio had a lot of conversations about the sort of Lex they wanted to write before letting Eisenberg take the reins. “In the movie, he’s like a million times more sophisticated than what you get in 30 seconds. But that’s also the fun of it. That’s why you go to the movies, so you can actually see the context and understand the depth.

ABOUT THE BATMOBILE:

I do get to get in it quite a bit, more than when we were filming which is funny. When I’m filming, I’m like, ‘Move that thing over there!’ I’m like, mad at it. But after we’re done shooting I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s my best friend! Yaay! Get in it! Love it! I love the design of it. I love the thing, it drives like crazy. You can skid it around, it’s like a frickin’ race car. And in that way it’s super practical. We did a huge chase with it and it drove, which is cool. It’s got a big Corvette engine in it and it can just run.

ABOUT WONDER WOMAN:

We kind of tried to just listen to Wonder Woman… to preserve her mystery but understand her as much as we can, in the way that we see her in the movie. You’ve got to listen to Wonder Woman because what Wonder Woman wants, Wonder Woman gets, that’s just how it is. I think that Gal [Gadot] is amazing, an amazing Wonder Woman and really – I feel like there’s an atmosphere out in the world where [with] this giant iconographic strong female superhero, it’s time. It’s time for that. It’s long overdue.

It’s an amazing opportunity to have Wonder Woman in the film. We haven’t had a female superhero of that magnitude, and it’s an amazing opportunity for the world to get behind an amazing, powerful female character. I’m happy that we have the opportunity to do that. Half of my movies have female leads…maybe that’s because I have so many strong women in my life. I’m not in the least surprised by a strong female superhero. I’m shocked that it hasn’t happened sooner. By the way, I highly recommend Jill Lepore’s book, The Secret History Of Wonder Woman, if you haven’t read it; it’s amazing, and truly epic. We tested a bunch of actresses, as you can imagine. But the thing with Gal is that she’s strong, she’s beautiful, and she’s a kind person, which is interesting, but fierce at the same time. It’s that combination of being fierce but kind at the same time that we were looking for. She can get serious, but she’s amazingly fun to be around. And by the way, she really held her own with Ben in the screen test. Ben was like, ‘Whoa, that girl is something else!’ That was a good sign, because Ben is very tough in the scene, and he’s big and commanding. Anytime that you’re doing a test like that and you’re looking at the other person, you’re thinking, ‘Okay, that’s good stuff.’ That was part of the process, and over time as we got to know Gal, we found out how amazing she is. We did… I can’t even remember how many in terms of interviews, but for the final test, I think that we tested six actresses. But we interviewed and saw hundreds, so it was a pretty exhausting process.

No, she has a cameo in this movie. No, actually… it’s bigger than a cameo. She comes in and does something. The ‘Is she with you?’ joke at the end of the trailer? You have to see the movie, because it gears into the drama of what’s happening, and if you see it in the context of the film, it completely makes sense that the two of them were trying to figure out who she is…

Well, they’re forced together, which you get a sense of from the trailer. They’re forced to work together.
