Hard Leto Joker Brilliance Discussed by David… by filmjunkee
David Ayer did some chatting about the brilliance that is the Jared Leto Joker. He talks about Suicide Squad in general on how it differs from the other movies.
In your normal comic-book movie you have the good guy, the hero, and there’s a checklist and you can reverse engineer their actions from any given situation because they’re going to do the right thing. These are bad guys, so they have a lot more options open to them in any given situation. They’re capable of anything, and that’s the fun of this.
What Jared has done is absolutely incredible. When he steps onto the set the world stops. Everything stops. What he’s done is so powerful, so menacing, so palpable, you can feel him. The crew stops working and just watches him. I have to get everybody going again because he’s so fascinating.
What’s interesting to me is how there’s been a lot of perceptions of what this film is because we have been exposed more than other movies. What people think this movie is is not what it is. There’s so much more to come.
